FOUNDER OF ORIONMADE.IN

At Deodara, I lead and teach the woodworking courses. Till date, I have shared my love of the craft with over 100 people - ranging in age from 17 to 64.

My journey in wood began when I first stepped into the studio in 2022 to document Mikhail's work. Mikhail and I shared a deep respect for the material, structure, and mindful design. Soon enough I found myself working closely with him - receiving mentorship and hands-on learning. I had the freedom to devote months to this adventure and over time, I developed my own artistic voice in wood where I focused on innovating everyday functional works of wood like a wooden wallet (see orionmade.in).

I also realised that not everyone had the time or space for such an immersive journey and more importantly, a platform where one could explore their own artistic expression wasn't very accessible. So, I designed an 8-day course that builds the right foundation in woodworking and nurtures individual artistic expression in wood.

I'm grateful that Mikhail and I share this vision and the doors of Deodara remain open for people to invest in this craft and in themselves.

For me, the course is a success when each student walks away with the skills to safely use woodworking tools at home and the ability to design and complete their own creation. As each student is different in what they need, their natural dexterity with tools, I start from where each student is and advance from that to the next step. This ranges from having daily communication/check-ins and a personalised mentorship that involves sharing technical/design insights, collaborating on ideas, offering encouragement and jumping in with more hands on teaching. During the course, students also learn from each other as the diverse projects explore different aspects of woodworking.
